Club History

The following is a brief history of the STRATHALBYN MODEL AIRCRAFT CLUB

Back in 1974 Noel Wenzel, (our current Vice President), and four other model aircraft enthusiasts decided to form a ‘flying club’ on a private property at Langhorne Creek south east of Adelaide. With an assortment of semi scale planes and radio control equipment, that was primitive to say the least, they sowed the seeds of S.M.A.C. as we know it today.

1977 saw the birth of S.M.A.C officially, and a move to a full size airfield, owned by The Southern District Flying Club at Belverdere,  was undertaken.

Sharing the field with Adelaide Sky Sport the club prospered until they began ultra light aircraft student training, then it became too dangerous. So in 1995 the club moved to it’s present location at Strathalbyn, steadily growing to it’s current size.

The club is dedicated to the advancement, and safe enjoyment of our chosen sport. We offer student training by qualified instructors

So if you feel that radio control flying might be your passion, then please visit us for more information.
